Noora Al Awar | Bridge To Nowhere

Fundamentals of Digital Design was a digital design seminar focused on developing students’ abilities to make use of digital tools for design. The course was broken down into two major sections. The first focusing on 3d modeling and rendering, in which students learned to use the Rhino modeling software, along with the VRay render plug-in. The second section focused on the use of animation tools for design, computation, and digital fabrication. During this phase students learned to use the Maya animation software, as well as the basics of MEL script and expressions. Students were required to design and fabricate a bridge like structure. This bridge was to behave more as a system as opposed to a fixed structure, as it was required that the digital models be dynamically responsive to encourage variation. Projects produced using Maya were then digitally fabricated using a 3D printer.
